One foot in front of the other – Important Tips

Scout Parents,

Just a few important things to help your Scout prepare for the upcoming hike:

Out of all the gear your Scout will bring with him on the upcoming trip, his feet are his most important asset.

1) Have your Scout cut his toe nails this week. Long toe nails will not only ruin his socks, but will cause pain on any decline as the ram into the toe of the shoe. In any effort the shift weight, ankles can be injured, resulting in a very uncomfortable experience.

2) If your Scout has athletes foot … Please start any necessary treatment as soon as possible. Getting this under some sort of control prior to the trip will help make his hike less painful.

3) Have your Scout begin wearing his hiking shoes every day this week. If they aren’t already broken in, this will start the process. If they are, this will help him start getting used to his footwear prior to the trip.

4) Ok … Not feet, but hair … If your Scout is getting a hair cut this week, he will definitely need to wear a hat every day next week. We will be between 5500 & 6500 feet, and although they will be hiking into Hell’s Gate (a true location on the trail), we don’t want your Scout feeling like he stuck his head inside the proverbial gate to take a gander.
